S.Y.A.A. is a non-profit youth sports organization dedicated to providing boys and girls in the Springfield, Nebraska, community a variety of opportunities to participate in sports and develop athletic and life skills through preparation and competition. Baseball and softball have been part of life in the Springfield community for many years. In the early 1990's a group of parents recognized a need to provide better organization in the youth programs for each sport, and Springfield 46 Baseball, Inc. was created. Our baseball and softball teams began competing against teams from other communities and soon joined leagues. In August 2000 our first football teams began practice in preparation for our inaugural season of flag football. The season was a huge success and inspired a generous $10,000 donation toward the start of tackle football in the community. Our first two tackle teams will take the field in August 2001, along with our flag football teams. In recognition of the variety of sports we sponsor today, we re-organized and re-named our organization S.Y.A.A. in January 2001. Our first tackle football teams took the field in the fall of 2001. Our first season was a tremendous success with over 50 players on two teams. The 9- and 10-year-old team finished with a perfect 7-0 record, and the 11- and 12-year-old squad finished 4-3. Both teams competed against "in-house" teams from the Council Bluffs Panthers league. In 2006 S.Y.A.A. put strong competitive teams on the field in all age groups. No reason to think 2007 will be any different.
S.Y.A.A. is run by its Board of Directors, which consists of our four officers and the commissioners of the sports we sponsor. Current Directors include:
